About Me

I was born in 1964 in Hrodna (Grodno) in Belarus (at that time BSSR). Of great importance for my development as an artist was my visit to Garry Mazurov youth creative studio in Hrodna, which I began attending in 1982, excluding the two years I spent in the Soviet army in 1983-1985.

Thanks to the foundations laid in art studio, I was able to enter the Belarusian Theatre and Art Institute in Minsk in 1988, renamed during my studies to the Belarusian Academy of Arts, in the easel painting department. While studying at the Academy of Arts, I attempted to study in the theater decoration department, but later I realized that I had made a mistake and returned back to the easel painting department. Among my teachers, I would like to mention Oleg Matsievich and Viktor Gromyko.

After completing my studies in 1994, I returned to Hrodna to the art workshop organized by Garry Mazurov. In the summer of 1996, I went to Moscow, where I lived and worked until 1998. My first solo exhibition was also held there.

In the autumn of 1998 I returned to Hrodna, where I was already working singly in the village of Sarytsa near Hrodna in the house of my grandparents. This period of 1999-2000 is especially successful in my work. During these years, a number of works were created that are distinguished by their laconicism and expressiveness, as well as a series of graphic works. The result of this period was also two solo exhibitions in Hrodna.

After 2000, I moved to Minsk, where I lived and worked until 2017 and took part in several group exhibitions. As a conclusion of this period there was my personal exhibitions of painting and photography in Minsk.

In August 2017 I moved to Poland, where I live to this day. Since 2019 I am a Member of the Union of Polish Artists (ZPAP). During this time I worked with galleries "101 Projekt" (Warsaw) and "Yegorov Gallery" (Krakow). Currently I cooperate with the gallery "Xanadu" (Warsaw).

My paintings are in private collections in Belarus, Poland, Italy, Russia, Lithuania, Croatia, Montenegro, Germany, Ireland.

My passion for photography began in 1984 during my service in the Soviet Army, when I got my hands on a film camera. Not only did I constantly take photos, but I also learned how to develop film and make prints on photo paper using special equipment and reagents.

The period of my studies at the Academy of Arts in 1988-1994 was very fruitful for my photography. Then I acquired my own photographic equipment and took not only black and white photos, but also color ones on slide film. I especially loved to take pictures when I came to Grodno in the village that was nearby in the house of my grandparents.

Since 2007 I started taking pictures with a digital camera. In 2012-2013 I actively took pictures using a simple small mobile phone with a primitive built-in camera. This was facilitated not only by the temporary absence of a camera, but also by other opportunities that a mobile phone provided, which could be used to take pictures completely unnoticed.

I was very active in photography in 2014-2018. At that time, I took not only random street and reportage photos, but also tried to do staged photos with models. Since 2019, I have again become interested in film photography, but this time in medium format 6x6, while continuing to actively use a digital full-frame camera.

In recent years I have taken fewer photographs, having decided to devote more of my attention to painting. But at the slightest opportunity I am given, I pick up the camera again.
